A Wonka New Year 29th December—2nd January 2025 Trinity Park—Suffolk Show Ground Never attended this teams New Year event? If you have ever organised an event for a club you know just how much work goes into making it happen.   So imagine an average club weekend then quadruple, quintuple or sextuple it.   Somewhere within those figures you will arrive at the 120+ units and 240+ people that attended this event.    It adds a whole new meaning to putting the kettle/urn on for tea or coffee for the attendees! The organisation that goes into to planning such an event is huge.   The work required by the back room office team for just handling bookings, dietary requirements and catering supplies must be immense.   This is not to mention the list of jobs ‘to do’ ranging from liaising with the venue to booking entertainment.   I am not sure a summary of the effort required would ever do justice to their input and work.   It is best just than...

Holly and the Ivy

Image
Holly and the Ivy 6th-8th December 2024 Nacton Despite the threat of storm Darragh, 19 caravans/motorhomes made their way to Nacton to start the festivities for 2024.    If you have never been to this venue, make a point of attending an event here.   Pitched high up on the banks of the river Orwell, the views are stunning.   There are long walks down to the rivers edge, many taking you through wooded areas with an abundance of wildlife.   Well worth a walk at anytime of year. There are two venues here at Nacton scout camp, this time we were at Ravenscroft.   This has the smaller hall of the two venues and is ideally suited to a cosy pre Christmas rally.   Every one arrived on Friday and once we set ourselves up we ventured the very short distance to the hall.   As we entered we were Instantly greeted with warm mulled wine and mince pies.   The hall had been decked with Christmas decorations to add to the cosy feel.   The N...

The Tellwright Cup

Image
The Tellwright Cup Was d onated by W.C. Tellwright more years ago than anyone would wish to remember. A warded for good caravanning with Judging takes place throughout the season.   It covers all aspects of our hobby, including supporting our centre. The rules indicate that anyone can win except if you are serving on committee. So this years winners have been waiting in the wings to win for a very long time.   Both Les and Jackie have served on committee individually or as a couple continuously for a very long time.    They are regular mar shals running multiple events every year and always available to support.   Their service to our club has been outstanding. This years winners of the Tellwright Cup : Les & Jackie.

Inter Centre Fishing Competition

Image
Invitation from South Essex Little Walden, 27th-29th September 2024. Every year during September the 5 centres of the Anglia division are invited to a fishing competition.   This event has become a go to event for those who want to support their centre using their fishing skills.    Although the rules allow for this event to be held at different venues across the region, Home Farm at Little Walden has become a favourite in recent years.   Its central location, its two lakes and friendly site owners seem to have us return year after year. This year was no different, twenty two units attended from three centres, these being South Essex, Mid Anglia and ourselves North Essex.    South Essex hosted the event on behalf of the division with Pauline & Kevin H, Tina & Tony N and Sue and Paul M marshalling. All units managed to fill two rows across the field, each with a great view of the lakes.   Two event tents took central positions and...

Ladies Charity Rally

Image
Hook Farm, Mundon, August Bank Holiday 2024 :    As the Chairman enjoys his 2nd year, it is traditional that this triggers the centres charity year.   The Chairman's partner chooses which charity to support.   This is usually one that has had an impact on their or someone close to their life.    This year Dawn chose Little Lifts as her charity, this was a result of the much appreciated support she received personally from them very recently. This charity provides mood boosting goodie boxes containing practical products for people who have experienced breast cancer treatment. To help generate funds the rally was spread over the long bank holiday weekend. Many of the hard working committee arrived on the Wednesday, well before the weekend started.   There was a huge amount to do, marquees, tea urns, bottled gas, doggie outfits needed to be collected from our storage unit many miles away.    These needed to be set up assembled a...

Why Not Fish? - Rally 28

Image
Why Not Fish? - Rally 28 Borowaters, Southminster, 26th-28th July 2024.   A lways happy to attend this rally, its central location on the Dengie peninsular makes it a great base for exploring the local seaways and estuaries. The rally location is well off the road and offers enough room to host 100 caravans or motorhomes if needed. With its two lakes and spacious pitches it is a rally I always book if possible.    In fact, its so enjoyable we usually book on their CL for a few days beforehand then join up with the rally on the Friday. Our marshals for this weekend were Dawn & Kevin and Lynn & Den, they have being running this rally for many years and always do an excellent job. As usual, Friday evening we received a warm welcome and settled into our pitch.   Once settled, Brian & Helen invited everyone over for some drinks and nibbles outside their caravan.   This couple make great hosts, the circle of chairs around their nibbl...
